HC “Kharkiv” will officially compete in the Ukrainian Men’s Super League in the 2026/2027 season. After winning the Higher League, the team has taken an important step forward. Now the club faces new sporting and organizational challenges.
Kharkiv will once again be represented in Ukraine’s top division of handball. For our club, this is more than just promotion — it is a return to the traditions of a city that holds a special place in the history of Ukrainian handball.
From Winning the Higher League to a New Challenge
The 2025/2026 season was a championship-winning one for HC “Kharkiv”. The team claimed the Higher League title and earned the right to compete against the strongest clubs in Ukraine.
The Super League represents a significantly higher level of competition. That is why preparations for the new season will involve not only an intensive training process, but also serious work on squad development, logistics, and the organization of home games.
“Returning to the Super League is the result of a great deal of work. For the players and fans, it is an exciting achievement. For the club management, it is a new challenge and a great responsibility,” says HC “Kharkiv” head coach Oleksandr Proskurov.
Kharkiv Remains the Team’s Home
Due to the security situation, the club has to find the best possible model for organizing both training sessions and home matches.
The team is expected to play its home games in Brovary, while the training process will be organized between Brovary and Kharkiv.
“We live in Kharkiv, and despite everything, life goes on,” says Oleksandr Proskurov.
The club is also considering the possibility of holding an international training camp ahead of the new season.
Focus on Young Players
One of the main priorities during the off-season will be building the squad.
The coaching staff plans to retain the core of the team that won the Higher League championship. At the same time, competing in the Super League will require additional reinforcements.
The squad will be built around young players, complemented by more experienced athletes.
Particular attention will be paid to physical preparation. The Kharkiv handball school has traditionally been strong in this area.
Building the Foundation for the Future
At HC “Kharkiv”, the focus goes beyond the upcoming season.
The main objective is to build a stable team and create a strong foundation for the club’s long-term development. The strategy is therefore designed for at least two seasons — 2026/2027 and 2027/2028.
“We are laying the foundation for the future,” emphasizes Oleksandr Proskurov.
The club also expresses its gratitude to everyone who makes it possible for the team to continue its journey. HC “Kharkiv” particularly recognizes the support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Kharkiv Regional Branch of the National Olympic Committee, and the Handball Federation of the Kharkiv Region.
